Analysis of Infrastructure for Renewable Power in Eastern and Southern Africa

Africa is endowed with abundant renewable and nonrenewable energy resources. Nevertheless, about two thirds of its population still lacks access to modern energy services, such as electricity and non-solid cooking fuels. Fortunately, rapid advances in the reliability, efficiency and cost-competitiveness of renewable energy technologies provide the continent with the opportunity to increase energy access and security. This can be done without the environmental and economic costs associated with an energy development path based on fossil fuels.
